Dairy farmers share insights on herd longevity

Dairy farmers share insights on herd longevity

By Blake Jackson

Optimizing cow health throughout their lifespan is paramount for a dairy farm's profitability. The 2024 Herdsperson Conference, presented by Professional Dairy Producers (PDP), tackles this crucial topic.

This one-day event, designed for dairy teams, equips attendees with actionable strategies and insights from leading herd-health experts and top producers.

The program will be offered in English and Spanish on both October 29th in Plover, WI, and October 30th in Arlington, WI.

“Implementing effective biosecurity measures at the farm level is becoming more and more important for the dairy industry, and the first step is understanding how germs and diseases spread so we can mitigate the damage done to the herd’s wellbeing,” said John Haag, president of PDP board of directors and Dane, Wis., dairy producer. “Attending this workshop is an investment in a dairy operation’s herd health and bottom line.”

Key conference sessions include:

  • Protect Cows and Profits with Biosecurity: Led by Dr. Keith Poulsen, this session will unveil hidden threats to animal health and explore critical control points for biosecurity.
  • Proactively Maximize Cow Health: Dr. Lautaro Rostoll-Cangiano will delve into management practices and select dietary formulations that can reduce disease during the critical transition period.
  • Unlocking Herd Longevity Secrets: This panel discussion features top U.S. dairy farmers Mitch Breunig, Tony Brey, and Corey Hodorff. They'll share insights on the impact of environmental factors, cow health, and sustainability traits on long-term herd success, empowering attendees to strengthen their own herds.

The Herdsperson Conference offers up to 4.5 Dairy AdvanCE and ARPAS continuing education credits.

Register your team today and learn more about speakers, continuing education units, and the conference itself by visiting www.pdpw.org or calling 800-947-7379.
