Wisconsin Ag Coalition's Key Budget Priorities for 2025-27

Wisconsin Ag Coalition's Key Budget Priorities for 2025-27

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Ag Coalition, representing various agricultural organizations, has outlined its key budget priorities for the 2025-27 biennial state budget.

The coalition stresses that continued investment in agriculture is essential for sustaining Wisconsin’s economy, which contributes $116.3 billion annually and employs over 9.5% of the state’s workforce.

In a joint statement, the coalition acknowledged past legislative support and emphasized the need for ongoing funding:

“The 2023-25 state budget was one of the most supportive for agriculture in recent history, thanks to the leadership of state legislators, the Joint Committee on Finance and Gov. Evers. Programs like ARIP demonstrated the importance of targeted investments in Wisconsin agriculture. We are optimistic that policymakers will continue to prioritize the needs of farmers and agribusinesses in the upcoming budget cycle.”

The coalition highlights several priority areas:

  • Agricultural Road Improvement Program (ARIP): The coalition seeks to continue the $150 million program that enhances town and county roads vital to transporting over 15 million tons of goods annually, contributing an estimated $12 billion to Wisconsin’s economy. The high demand for ARIP underscores the necessity of sustained infrastructure investment.
  • Innovation & Market Expansion: Supporting Wisconsin’s dairy and meat processing industries, advancing biofuel innovation, and helping farmers access new markets are key priorities for strengthening the agricultural sector.
  • Farmer-led Conservation Efforts: Increased funding for projects that improve soil health, water quality, and sustainable nutrient management remains a focus.
  • Workforce & Community Support: The coalition advocates for continued investment in CDL driver grants, technical student organizations, and expanded mental health services for farmers. Additionally, tax reforms aimed at easing financial burdens on farmers are recommended to promote long-term stability.

“We call on state leaders to maintain that momentum with these strategic priorities, ensuring that Wisconsin agriculture continues to fuel economic vitality and strengthen Wisconsin's rural communities.”
