In 2024, Wisconsin farmers harvested 47,600 acres of snap beans, yielding 4.28 million cwt, according to the USDA’s Vegetables 2024 Summary.
Fresh market snap beans contributed 98,500 cwt, valued at $10.8 million, while processing production reached 209,059 tons, worth $27.2 million.
Wisconsin remained the nation’s top producer, accounting for 40% of total U.S. snap bean production, which stood at 10.7 million cwt. Wisconsin also harvested 52,000 acres of sweet corn, producing 8.58 million cwt.
The fresh market segment accounted for 686,400 cwt, valued at $28.4 million, while 394,251 tons were processed, generating $33.9 million.
The state ranked third in national sweet corn production, contributing 16% to the U.S. total of 52.7 million cwt.
Green pea production in the state totaled 846,400 cwt from 20,200 harvested acres, with a total value of $12.3 million.
Fresh market green peas made up 800 cwt, valued at $172,000, while processing accounted for 42,278 tons, generating $12.1 million. Nationally, green pea production reached 4.50 million cwt.
Other notable crops included beets, with 3,000 acres harvested and a production value of $4.99 million. Cabbage production totaled 2.45 million cwt, worth $47.0 million.
Additionally, 6,800 acres of cucumbers yielded a $15.8 million production value, while pumpkin harvests from 3,100 acres reached $8.61 million.
Wisconsin remains a key player in U.S. vegetable production, contributing significantly to several major crops.
