Wisconsin potato board elects new members

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has officially confirmed the results of the 2024 Wisconsin Potato Industry Board elections. Starting July 1, 2024, new members have assumed three-year terms on the board.

Representing District 1 is Eric Schroeder from Deerbrook. His district covers a vast area, including Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Brown, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Door, Douglas, Dunn, Eau Claire, Florence, Forest, Iron, Kewaunee, Langlade, Lincoln, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Oneida, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Taylor, Vilas, and Washburn counties.

James Okray from Stevens Point has been elected to represent District 2. His district includes Marathon, Outagamie, Portage, Shawano, Waupaca, and Waushara counties.

Roderick Gumz of Endeavor will serve District 3. This district encompasses Adams, Buffalo, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Lafayette, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Monroe, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Trempealeau, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha, Winnebago, and Wood counties.

The Wisconsin Potato Industry Board, comprising nine growers across three districts and one at-large member elected every third year, manages approximately $2 million in assessment fees.

These funds support research, education, and promotional activities for Wisconsin-grown potatoes. DATCP is responsible for overseeing elections for Wisconsin's commodity marketing boards.
