Wisconsin Remains Tops in U.S. Snap Bean Production



Wisconsin farmers harvested 52,200 acres of snap beans in 2022 for a total production of 6.26 million cwt, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Vegetables 2022 Summary. Fresh market production totaled 137,800 cwt and was valued at $9.98 million. Processing production accounted for 305,996 tons and had a total value of $49.6 million. Wisconsin ranked first in production of snap beans with 44 percent of the nation's production. U.S. snap bean production totaled 14.3 million cwt.

There were 57,600 acres of sweet corn harvested in Wisconsin with a total production of 10.1 million cwt. Fresh market production accounted for 403,200 cwt with a total value of $18.6 million. Production of sweet corn for processing totaled 483,336 tons and was valued at $52.7 million. Wisconsin ranked third for sweet corn production with 18 percent of the nation's production. U.S. sweet corn production totaled 57.2 million cwt.

Green pea production in Wisconsin in 2022 totaled 1.09 million cwt from 25,100 harvested acres and was valued at $19.0 million. Fresh market production totaled 1,100 cwt for a total value of $328,000. The 54,231 tons of processing green pea production had a value of $18.7 million. Green pea production in the U.S. totaled 5.42 million cwt.

Wisconsin farmers produced 1.60 million cwt of carrots in 2022 from 3,200 harvested acres with a total value of production of $8.77 million. Cabbage production in 2022 totaled 2.41 million cwt with a total value of production of $29.6 million. There were 6,700 acres of cucumbers harvested in 2022 with a total value of production of $20.8 million.
