By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is now accepting applications for its 2024 Specialty Crop Block Grants.

  • Boost your specialty crop industry: This program offers funding for projects that enhance the competitiveness of Wisconsin's diverse specialty crops, including fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, nursery crops, and herbs. Focus areas include research, education, and market development.
  • Who can apply? Non-profit organizations, producer groups, government agencies, universities, and other agricultural entities are all welcome to apply. Collaborations and partnerships are encouraged!
  • Competitive selection: DATCP will carefully review applications and select the most impactful projects to represent Wisconsin in its state plan for USDA approval and funding.
  • Funding details: Grants typically range from $10,000 to $100,000 and can support projects for up to three years. Eligible expenses include personnel, consultants, materials, and supplies. Funding for approved projects begins in December 2024.
  • A proven track record: Since 2007, this grant program has awarded over $17.9 million in funding to more than 330 projects, helping to strengthen and grow Wisconsin's specialty crop sector.

Don't miss the deadline! Submit your application by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Grant information and application materials, including a video detailing the application process, are available at datcp.wi.gov/Pages/AgDevelopment/SpecialtyCropBlockGrants.aspx.
