Ag Education in Wisconsin: Preparing Students for the Future

Ag Education in Wisconsin: Preparing Students for the Future

Back to school is an exciting time for students, families, teachers, and communities across Wisconsin. As we settle into the new school year, it is important to recognize the importance of agricultural education in our schools and the impact it makes across the state.

Agricultural education provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue careers in agriculture, food, and natural resources. It also teaches students about the importance of agriculture to our economy and environment.

In September, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) will kick off the first session of the fourth Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council. This council is composed of high school seniors from across the state who are passionate about agriculture. They will meet virtually each month of the school year to learn about agriculture, network with other students, and develop leadership skills.

Agricultural education would not be possible without the dedication of teachers and students. I am grateful to the agricultural educators who work tirelessly to provide students with a high-quality education. I am also grateful to the students who are passionate about agriculture and who are eager to learn more about it.

I encourage everyone to support agricultural education in Wisconsin. By investing in agricultural education, we are investing in the future of our state.
