The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for a special firearm deer hunt at Sandhill Wildlife Area, running through September 20.
This managed hunt offers hunters a unique opportunity to pursue deer on the expansive 9,150-acre property while aiding the DNR in achieving its deer management goals. The hunt is exclusive to firearms, including rifles and shotguns.
Scheduled for November 2-3, 2024, the hunt is open to licensed hunters who will be issued two permits: an either-sex permit and an antlerless-only permit for use specifically at Sandhill Wildlife Area. All successful applicants must review the special hunting rules and regulations applicable to the area prior to the hunt.
“This special deer hunt will provide hunters an additional harvest opportunity and assist the department in reaching our deer harvest goal for Sandhill Wildlife Area,” said Darren Ladwig, DNR wildlife biologist. “We are aiming to maintain our deer population this year and need additional hunter effort to achieve those results.”
Interested hunters should apply for the 2024 Sandhill Firearm Deer Hunt by September 20 via the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center webpage to secure their chance to participate in this important wildlife management effort.
