Apply Now for Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council

By Blake Jackson

Applications are open for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council, with current high school juniors invited to apply by March 31, 2026.

“I am pleased that DATCP is recruiting for its seventh Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council, and I encourage students who are interested in agriculture to apply,” said DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “This council is a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge and grow their connections in Wisconsin agriculture.”

The council aims to introduce students to agricultural career pathways, provide insight into state agricultural policy, highlight farmer resources, and build leadership and networking skills.

Members serve a one-year term and meet virtually each month during the academic year to hear from industry professionals, participate in discussions, and explore current agricultural issues.

"My time as a member of the DATCP Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council has helped me to understand the importance of teamwork and the need for youth to discuss problems and solutions for the industry to ensure the future of Wisconsin agriculture,” said Oscar Stowell, a council member from Fox Lake.

“Agriculture is the cornerstone of American society, and this experience has allowed me to learn more about leadership in agriculture.”

“During my time as a member of this council, I have not only become more informed about agricultural careers and their impact, but I have also grown in my ability to speak in formal settings and develop thoughtful, in-depth questions,” added Lucy Ehlen, a council member from Elkhorn. “I would strongly recommend that anyone with a passion for agriculture and a desire to advocate for the industry not pass up this phenomenal opportunity.”

Students entering their senior year in 2026-2027 are eligible to apply. The council typically includes 15 members representing nine districts statewide, along with at-large representatives. Applicants must submit background information, an essay, and a one-minute video outlining their interest in agriculture.
