The Wisconsin Beef Council held its inaugural "Wisconsin's Best Burger Contest" to find the tastiest burger in the state. After a month of public nominations, the top eight contenders, including Pickles Bar and Grill, were chosen. A secret panel of judges then evaluated each burger based on taste, appearance, cooking temperature, and overall enjoyment.
Pickles Bar and Grill's All-American Burger, a half-pound patty with smoked garlic mayo and classic toppings, emerged victorious. The judges were impressed by its juiciness, perfectly cooked patty, and delicious flavor. Justin Koshak, co-owner of Pickles Bar and Grill, expressed his pride in representing the Northwoods' culinary scene.
The contest aimed to promote Wisconsin beef and restaurants. It was a success, with all eight finalists reporting increased business. "We're thrilled with the response," said Tammy Vaassen, the Beef Council's director. Judges praised the overall quality, highlighting the difficulty of choosing a winner.
Anyone could nominate their favorite burger joint during the contest's nomination period. Judges then anonymously visited each restaurant and sampled a burger from the menu.

- Brazen Head Pub, West Bend
- Crafty Cow, Milwaukee
- Dog House Bar & Grill, Mt. Horeb
- Ferry Xing Bar & Grill, Merrimac
- Pickles Bar & Grill, Hazelhurst (Winner)
- Skippy's Burger Bar, Thiensville
- Straight Home Bar & Grill, Eland
- The Dump Bar & Grill, Cambria
The winning burger must be a 100% beef patty served on a bun with various toppings allowed. The contest is expected to return next year, so be on the lookout for details in February 2025!
