The National FFA Organization has announced the names of this year's American Star Finalists awards, which includes one student from the Badger State. Emily Makos from the FFA Juda Chapter is in the running for American Star Farmer.
Makos' rabbit project has grown from one breed and three rabbits to more than 200, including New Zealands, Californians, Polish, and Mini Rex. She has attended the American Rabbit Breeders Association show and learned from others in the field.
Emily won the same award at the state level in 2020, and was a National FFA Proficiency award winner in the area of Small Animal Production the same year.
Star awards recognize students who have developed outstanding agricultural skill and competency through their career development programs, demonstrated outstanding management skills, earned the American FFA Degree and have met other agricultural education, scholarship and leadership requirements.
Each star finalist receives $2,000 from the National FFA Foundation and earns the opportunity to participate in an international experience tour. A panel of judges will interview the students and select one winner for each area at the National FFA Convention this fall in Indianapolis, Indiana.
