Midwest Farmers Demand Year-Round E15 Action

Midwest Farmers Demand Year-Round E15 Action

By Jamie Martin

Rural Voices USA has announced the launch of a large-scale advertising effort calling on Congress to approve year-round E15 legislation. The campaign includes digital advertisements, billboards in targeted districts, and public opinion polling across Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

Farm leaders say agriculture is experiencing one of the most difficult economic periods in recent years. Federal projections show farm income could drop by $4 billion in 2026. At the same time, government support payments are expected to represent nearly one third of the total farm income this year. Many farmers report their financial condition has worsened compared to last year.

“Farmers want real, sustainable markets for their crops,” said Chris Gibbs, Board Chairman of Rural Voices USA. “Year-round E15 would help boost the farm economy by increasing corn demand by over 2 billion bushels each year. Every year that Congress drags its feet, it becomes more and more difficult for rural communities to survive.”

Supporters argue that year-round nationwide access to E15 fuel would provide meaningful economic relief. Increased ethanol blending could raise corn demand by more than 2 billion bushels annually. Higher demand may help stabilize crop prices and improve farm revenue.

Economic estimates suggest that permanent E15 sales could generate over 128,000 new jobs and contribute $25.8 billion to national GDP. Consumers could save as much as 30 cents per gallon at the pump, totaling more than $20 billion in fuel savings. Ethanol use also reduces the need for imported crude oil, strengthening domestic energy security.

In 2025, American farmers produced a record corn yield of 186.5 bushels per acre. With strong production levels, growers are seeking expanded domestic markets to absorb supply.

Through its “Stop the Stall” message, Rural Voices USA is encouraging Congress to act promptly and deliver policy certainty. Advocates believe that passing year-round E15 legislation would support farmers, create economic growth, and provide long term benefits for rural America.
