Dairy producers looking for tips on raising healthy calves and managing their environmental impact won't want to miss this week's lineup of The Dairy Signal. This educational program, offered by Professional Dairy Producers, tackles key issues facing the dairy industry.
The week kicks off with a focus on calf health. On Tuesday, June 18th, Dr. Donald Sockett, a veterinary microbiologist/epidemiologist, will discuss sanitation protocols for preventing calf diseases. This session will cover cleaning procedures for feeding equipment, calf housing, and pens.
Wednesday's episode shifts gears to crop health. Agronomist Todd Schaumburg will provide insights on fungicide strategies for the current growing season. This timely discussion will help dairy farmers identify potential disease threats and take preventative measures.
The week wraps up with a deep dive into the FARM Environmental Stewardship Program (FARM ES) on Thursday, June 20th. Nicole Ayache and Sage Saffran from the National Milk Producers Federation will explain how the program works.
They'll cover topics like calculating greenhouse gas emissions and energy use on dairy farms, along with available tools and resources for farmers to minimize their environmental footprint.
The Dairy Signal episodes are not only informative but also practical. They are accredited through Dairy AdvanCE, allowing viewers to earn continuing education credits. These live broadcasts air from noon to 1:00 PM Central Time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Recordings are also available for later viewing. Whether you're a dairy producer, industry professional, or student, The Dairy Signal offers valuable insights to help you succeed in the ever-evolving dairy industry.
