It was another banner year for state maple syrup industry. According to the latest figures from the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service, maple producers cooked 440,000 gallons of syrup this spring, up 75,000 gallons from 2021.
The number of taps also increased by 20,000 this year to 920,000. Newly released figures show that yield was 0.478 gallons per tap, which was 18 percent higher than the season earlier.
Last year, the average price Wisconsin maple producers received was $33.10 per gallon, up 4.00 from the previous year.
Meanwhile, the most recent Wisconsin maple syrup season began on March 18, which was 12 days later than in 2021. It ended on April 20--which was three weeks later than last year's final day.
Wisconsin ranks fourth nationally for maple syrup production, only trailing Vermont, New York and Maine.
