Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Waukesha, Wisconsin on Wednesday, September 13 to mark the one-year anniversary of the initial project selection for USDA’s Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities.
Through this effort, USDA is investing more than $3.1 billion for 141 projects that will expand markets for climate-smart commodities, leverage the greenhouse gas benefits of climate-smart commodity production, and provide direct, meaningful benefits to production agriculture in Wisconsin and across the country, including for small and underserved producers.
During his visit, Secretary Vilsack will deliver remarks highlighting how projects from this effort will:
- Raise awareness and implementation of innovative, cutting-edge climate-smart production practices, activities, and systems on working lands.
- Provide comprehensive and meaningful data from the measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration.
- Support a diverse range of farmers, ranchers, and private forest landowners.
- Strengthen rural America.
The Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities is a key part of USDA’s commitment to supporting climate-smart agriculture and forestry. These projects will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air and water quality, and build resilience to climate change.
