UW–Madison Hemp Research Field Day

UW–Madison Hemp Research Field Day

Farmers and hemp enthusiasts are invited to the University of Wisconsin–Madison Hemp Research Field Day, held on August 17th at Arlington Agricultural Research Station. This informative event is free and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., offering presentations on the latest topics in hemp research. To attend, please register online at https://go.wisc.edu/hempfieldday.

Hemp is a highly versatile crop used for textiles, ropes, building materials, and nutrient-rich grains utilized in food products and oil. Additionally, hemp contains cannabinoids, which have potential applications in health. The UW Hemp Research Field Day will explore research on these aspects and more.

The event will begin with breakfast at 8:45 a.m., featuring coffee and donuts from BATCH CBD, a Wisconsin-based CBD company. Presentations will follow the "speed run" format, with each talk lasting around 10 minutes, followed by a 5-minute Q&A. Attendees will be shuttled to presentations and research trials around the station.

Speakers from UW–Madison faculty, staff, and Extension personnel will cover various topics, including hemp cultivars, industrial grain and fiber hemp variety trials, high cannabinoid hemp variety trials, hemp germplasm, companion cropping systems, hemp as forage feasibility, and more.

UW–Madison has a long history of hemp research dating back to 1912. In 2017, when growing industrial hemp became legal again, the university established a new program to support hemp growers in the state.

The Hemp Research Field Day will take place at the Arlington Agricultural Research Station, located off Hwy 51 at N695 Hopkins Road near Arlington, Wisconsin. The 2,000-acre station supports multiple disciplines in the UW–Madison College of Agricultural of Life Sciences.

This event is hosted by the Ellison Lab in the UW–Madison’s new Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences. For more information, contact Phillip Alberti at palberti@wisc.edu.

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences will provide accommodation for participants with disabilities when notified in advance. Request disability accommodation when registering online. Efforts will be made to meet same-day requests to the extent possible.

Don't miss this opportunity to explore the latest advancements in hemp research and learn about the diverse applications of this versatile crop. Register now to secure your spot at the UW–Madison Hemp Research Field Day.
