The Wisconsin Beef Council (WBC) recently donated $1,175 to Feeding Wisconsin, the state association of food banks. This donation, raised through a spring fundraiser selling slogan t-shirts, will help provide beef to families in need across Wisconsin.
"We are incredibly grateful for the WBC's generosity and continued support," said Jackie Anderson, Executive Director of Feeding Wisconsin. "Their contribution helps us bridge the gap for Wisconsin's food insecure population, which includes over 600,000 residents, and ensures our local food banks have the resources they need."
Rising food costs have exacerbated the issue, creating a $450 million annual shortfall for Wisconsin families and a meal gap exceeding 116 million meals.
The WBC's two-week fundraiser, under the slogan "You can't live a full life on an empty stomach," successfully sold 235 shirts.
"Ensuring access to nutritious beef is a priority," said Kaitlyn Kesler, WBC Director of Communications and Outreach. "We're proud to partner with Feeding Wisconsin to support food banks. Beef is a rich protein source, offering essential nutrients for all ages."
Feeding Wisconsin supports over 1,000 food pantries and meal programs across all 72 Wisconsin counties and 11 tribal nations. This donation builds on the WBC's established partnership with Feeding Wisconsin, bringing their total contributions to $7,000.
The Wisconsin Beef Council is a non-profit funded by a $1 per head assessment on cattle sold in Wisconsin. Half of this goes towards local beef promotion, while the other half supports national efforts. The WBC promotes beef consumption, research, and consumer education to bolster Wisconsin's $2.1 billion beef industry.
