Wisconsin egg production during October was 149 million eggs, down 18 percent from the same time last year, but three percent more than the previous month. According to the latest USDA Chickens and Eggs report, the average number of all layers on hand during October was 5.70 million. That's 20 percent less than in 2021 and slightly lower than September 2022. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,607, up two percent for the year.
Nationally, total egg production came in at 9.13 billion during October, down four percent from last year. Production included 7.83 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.21 billion were broiler-type and 90.6 million were egg-type.
The average number of layers totaled 374 million, four percent lower than a year ago. October egg production per 100 layers was 2,439 eggs, up slightly from October 2021.
