Wisconsin FFA Ready for National Convention in Indy

Members of the Wisconsin FFA Association will carry on their tradition of excellence in two weeks as delegates, officers and award winners head to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 95th National FFA Convention. The National FFA Organization says they are expecting over 70,000 to attend the event, as students representing the blue-and-gold will spend the week learning about agriculture, meeting new friends and getting motivated by inspirational speakers.

The popular career and trade show will be open throughout the week. And students will be motivated and inspired by the retiring addresses of this year's national FFA officers, including Cortney Zimmerman of Spencer, who is serving as the Central Regional National FFA Vice President.

Wisconsin's delegation will be especially busy this year. Emily Makos of the Juda FFA is a finalist for the American Star Farmer award; Ben Styer from Menomonie is a candidate running for a national officer position; six members will be competing as national finalists for Proficiency Awards; and 128 other students from the Badger State will be receiving their American FFA Degrees.

Meanwhile, many local chapters will also be recognized during the conference as Wisconsin programs will be honored as three-star chapters. They include Badger, Big Foot, Columbus, DeForest, Denmark, Elkhorn, Freedom, Kewaskum, Manawa, Marshall, Slinger, Stanley-Boyd, Thorp, Waupaca, Waupun, and Weyauwega-Fremont.

Also at the convention, adult honorary membership will be granted to Wisconsin FFA Executive Director Cheryl Zimmerman and her late-husband, Mark Zimmerman, of Spencer, along with former high school and technical college educator Mike Sabel from Auburndale.

The National FFA Convention will be held October 26-29 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
