Women in conservation week - WI celebrates

By Blake Jackson

Governor Tony Evers has declared July 7th-13th "Wisconsin Women in Conservation Week," recognizing the vital role women play in protecting the state's natural resources.

This year marks the fourth consecutive year of celebrating these contributions with a series of "Conservation Educator Happy Hours" across Wisconsin.

These free, open-to-the-public events aim to connect and empower women landowners, farmers, conservation professionals, and anyone passionate about Wisconsin's environment. Hosted by Wisconsin Women in Conservation (WiWiC), the Happy Hours provide a platform to showcase the growing number of women leaders in the state's agricultural and conservation sectors.

"We're thrilled with the Governor's proclamation and excited to celebrate the amazing women caring for Wisconsin's soil, water, and wildlife," said Esther Durairaj, WiWiC program director. Women's influence on land and water management is stronger than ever, and WiWiC is committed to providing them with resources and support.

Kriss Marion, WiWiC communications lead, highlights Happy Hours as a chance to meet the new generation of conservation leaders. "We're seeing new leadership at Michael Fields, The Nature Conservancy, and county NRCS offices. It's a fantastic opportunity to connect and network."

The Happy Hours will be held across the state throughout Wisconsin Women in Conservation Week:

  • Monday, July 8th (4-6 PM): Milwaukee - Alice's Garden Urban Farm
  • Tuesday, July 9th (4-6 PM): Stevens Point - The Main Grain
  • Wednesday, July 10th (4-6 PM): Mt. Horeb - Brix Cider
  • Friday, July 12th (4-6 PM): Eau Claire - 3rd and Vine

These events offer a chance to celebrate the achievements of women in conservation and foster a network of support for future generations of environmental stewards in Wisconsin.
