'Alice' to Promote State Christmas Tree Industry in Walworth Co.

Wisconsin's 75th Alice in Dairyland is ready to kick-off the holidays. Taylor Schaefer will be presenting the state's first official Christmas tree of the season at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn this weekend.

Schaefer has already harvested the pine at Country Side Trees near Walworth last week. She will unveil it to the public during the community's Let it Glow celebration on Saturday, which is sponsored by the Elkhorn Chamber of Commerce.

The tradition of cutting the first tree dates back to 2000 as a way to promote the county that's scheduled to host the following Alice in Dairyland Finals. Those events will take place in Walworth County in May of 2023.

Wisconsin is the nation's fifth-largest Christmas tree producer, with an annual harvest of more than 600,000 trees valued at more than $16 million.
