In a move to support the thriving dairy industry in America's Dairyland, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has announced the recipients of the 2023 Dairy Processor Grants. These grants, totaling $400,000, aim to stimulate innovation, enhance profitability, and ensure the long-term sustainability of dairy processing facilities across the state.
Under the leadership of Governor Evers, bipartisan support was garnered to secure additional funding for the Dairy Processor Grant Program in the previous budget cycle. Recognizing the significance of dairy processors to Wisconsin's economy, Gov. Evers urges further investment to propel these critical programs and secure the success of dairy processors in the state for years to come.
Out of 38 grant requests totaling over $1.5 million, 21 Wisconsin dairy companies were chosen as recipients of this year's grants. Each selected company can receive a maximum grant amount of $50,000, and must contribute or match at least 20 percent. The chosen projects encompass a wide range of innovations, including the implementation of modern technologies, expansion and modernization initiatives, marketing development plans, and feasibility studies.
With an ever-evolving industry, the demand for these grants, which facilitate innovation, remains high. Recognizing this, Gov. Evers' current budget proposal aims to increase funding for Dairy Processor Grants, further driving progress and profitability in Wisconsin's dairy industry.
Since 2014, DATCP has received 199 dairy processor grant proposals, with 106 of them approved, amounting to $2 million in funding. As the state continues to lead the nation and the world in dairy production, these grants play a crucial role in empowering Wisconsin's dairy processors, allowing them to adapt, compete, and excel in a rapidly changing marketplace.
