Though most of the past week saw sunny and humid conditions, the rains were welcome in many parts of the state going into the weekend. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture's weekly crop summary noted that the precipitation provided relief for stressed crops and dry soils.
Topsoil moisture conditions were rated three percent very short, 21 percent short, 73 percent adequate and three percent surplus.
As of Sunday, about nine percent of the corn was silking, which was five days behind last year and four days off the five-year average. Corn condition was rated at 77 percent good to excellent statewide--a slight improvement from last week.
Nearly half of the soybeans were blooming. That's more than a week behind the same time in 2021, but just a day behind normal. Reporters say about five percent of the fields are setting pods.
All but nine percent of the oats were headed and 50 percent are changing color. In the winter wheat fields, 92 percent of the crop is coloring and farmer have already put five percent of their crop through the combine.
The second cutting of alfalfa was reported at 78 percent complete, which was just three days behind last year, but four days ahead of the average.
