The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension is launching a free online course, "School for Beginning Beef Production." This program is perfect for anyone new to raising beef cattle or looking to expand their existing farm.
The course consists of six informative sessions held in January 2025 via Zoom, each lasting 1.5 hours. Evenings from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM on January 14th, 16th, 21st, 23rd, 28th, and 30th are dedicated to learning from UW-Madison Extension specialists.
Here's a sneak peek at the engaging topics covered:
- January 14: Business of Beef: Explore different cattle production options and find the one that suits you best.
- January 16: Marketing Your Beef: Learn strategic marketing techniques to ensure your product reaches the right audience.
- January 21: Feeding Your Herd: Discover the science behind proper cattle nutrition.
- January 23: Keeping Records and Caring for Your Cattle: Master essential veterinary skills and recordkeeping practices.
- January 28: Building Your Herd: Understand the importance of herd reproduction in a successful operation.
- January 30: Understanding Different Production Systems: Explore various cattle feeding systems like stocker, backgrounder, and finisher enterprises.
