Join soil testing and soil health workshops

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin farmers are invited to attend a series of informative workshops focused on improving soil health and increasing crop yields.

These workshops, hosted by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), University of Madison Extension, and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will cover a range of topics, including:

  • Soil Biology and Cover Crops: Learn how to enhance soil fertility and boost crop yields using soil biology and cover crops.
  • Soil Testing: Discover how to take proper soil samples, submit a soil test, and interpret the results.
  • Soil Amendments: Understand how to select and apply appropriate soil amendments based on your soil test.
  • EQIP Funding: Learn about the USDA Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and how to apply for cost-share funding for cover crop seed.

These workshops are open to all producers, with a particular focus on supporting beginning and underserved farmers. The workshops will provide valuable information and resources to help you improve your soil health and access USDA programs.

Workshop Schedule:

  • September 24: Appleton, NEW Hmong Professionals (3-5:30 PM)
  • September 30: Verona (Madison), Farley Center (4-6:30 PM)

  • October 14: Mequon (Milwaukee), Fondy Farm (9-11:30 AM)
  • October 21: Wausau, GreenGold Gardens (4-6:30 PM)
