A Wisconsin dairy producer was among 12 recent appointees to the USDA's Dairy Promotion and Research Board. Gail Klinkner of Liberty Pole in Vernon County was appointed to serve a three-year term on the panel.
Klinkner owns and operates Pine Prairie Jerseys and Klinkner Holsteins with her husband, Rob, and is currently vice chair of the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin board of directors.
Other state produces who serve on the DPRB include George Crave, Waterloo; Randy Roecker, Loganville; Becky Levzow, Rio; and Sara Bahgat-Eggert, Clayton.
The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board, composed of 36 dairy farmers representing 13 regions of the contiguous United States, administers a coordinated program of promotion, research and nutrition education. It was first authorized in 1983 to design programs to strengthen the dairy industry's position in domestic and foreign markets.
The program is financed by a mandatory 15-cent per hundredweight assessment on all milk marketed commercially and a 7.5-cent per hundredweight assessment on milk and dairy products imported into the U.S.
