Wisconsin Beef Producers - Workshop on Direct Marketing Tips

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin farmers interested in direct marketing beef have a valuable opportunity to learn and network at an upcoming workshop.

The Wisconsin Beef Council is hosting this event on Friday, April 11th, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the Marriott Madison West in Middleton.

The workshop coincides with the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors (WAMP) annual convention, providing further networking opportunities with processors and fellow producers.

The workshop will cover a range of critical topics for successful direct beef marketing:

  • Pre-Harvest Influences on Beef Quality: This session, led by UW-Madison Extension's Beth McIlquham, will delve into pre-harvest strategies to optimize beef quality and prevent issues like dark, firm, and dry beef.
  • Guidance for Customers on Cutting Instructions: Kathy Collins from Country Pride Meats will share valuable tips on effectively communicating with customers about beef cuts and managing expectations regarding order specifics.
  • Labeling and Inspection Requirements: Experts from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection will guide attendees through the necessary labeling and inspection requirements for selling individual cuts of beef.
  • Claims and Terms in Marketing Beef: Leah Mindemann of Mindemann Farms will discuss crafting compelling marketing narratives that resonate with consumers while maintaining industry standards and consumer trust.
  • How to Frame Your Product for Profitability: Grace Link from Bosben Road Beef Co. and the Wisconsin Beef Council will provide insights into pricing strategies, market selection, and overall profitability considerations for direct beef marketing.

Beyond these sessions, attendees will receive updates from the Wisconsin Beef Council on consumer research and available resources to support beef sales.

Registration for the Direct Marketing Workshop can be completed online at https://www.beeftips.com/directmarketing or by calling the Wisconsin Beef Council at 1-800-728-2333.  Attendees will also gain Friday access to the WAMP trade show, which runs from noon to 6:00 PM.

This workshop offers a comprehensive learning experience for both new and experienced beef producers interested in direct marketing, providing valuable knowledge and networking opportunities to thrive in this growing market segment.
