The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has identified new cases of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in backyard flocks in Marathon and Waukesha Counties.
State animal health officials say all the birds at both sites have been depopulated to prevent spread of the disease.
Since the beginning of the year, 26 flocks in 18 counties have been confirmed with HPAI, according to state animal health officials. All infected flocks are depopulated to prevent spread of the disease.
HPAI viruses are highly contagious and often fatal to domestic poultry.
The disease can be spread by contact with infected birds, equipment, or clothing worn by anyone working with the animals.
