The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that two wild deer in Monroe County and another one in Oconto County have tested positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. All three of the animals were bucks that were harvested during the 2021 gun-deer season in November.
These are the first confirmed wild positive cases of CWD in each of the two counties.
As required by state law, the DNR enacts three-year baiting and feeding bans in counties where CWD has been detected and two-year bans in adjoining counties that lie within 10 miles of a CWD detection.
Meanwhile, the agency is planning to hold a virtual informational meeting on February 3 from 6-8 p.m. to discuss CWD in Monroe County.
