Wisconsin soybean growers broke new records in 2021 for the number of bushels harvested. The USDA's Crop Production Summary report on Wednesday showed that 114 million bushels of soybean were harvested in the Badger State during the past growing season. That was up 10 percent from the 2020 harvest. Growers averaged 55 bushels per acre for yield on 2.07 million acres of ground.
Corn for grain production in Wisconsin is estimated at 547 million bushels, up eight percent from the previous year. Producers also set a new record for yield in 2021 at 180 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 3.04 million acres, 110,000 acres above 2020. Corn planted for all purposes in 2021 was estimated at 4.00 million acres.
For those who grew corn for silage, their total production fell five percent to 19.1 million tons last year. The silage yield estimate of 21.5 tons per acre was up a half-ton per acre from 2020. Producers harvested 890,000 acres of corn for silage, down seven percent for the year.
All hay production totaled 3.52 million tons. That was up one percent from the 3.48 million tons produced in 2020. Producers averaged 2.86 tons per acre, up 0.32 ton per acre for the year. Other hay production was estimated at 608,000 tons, down 24 percent from 2020.
