Senator Baldwin introduces organic farm bills in Wisconsin

Senator Baldwin introduces organic farm bills in Wisconsin

By Blake Jackson

Wisconsin is home to the second-most organic farms in the nation, with over 1,455 farms. In recognition of the importance of organic agriculture to the state, Senator Tammy Baldwin has introduced two legislative packages to support organic farmers.

The first package, the Organic Market Development Act, would provide grants to help farmers reach new markets, innovate new products, and grow their businesses. The second package, the Organic Dairy Assistance, Investment, and Reporting Yields Act of 2023, would provide emergency assistance to organic dairy farmers who are facing challenges such as volatile markets, rising production costs, and unstable feed supplies.

Senator Baldwin believes that it is important to support organic farmers at this time, as they play a vital role in the state's economy and food system. She is committed to working with her colleagues to pass these important bills.
