The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association is holding its U.S. Championship Cheese Contest at Resch Expo Center in Green Bay next year--the first such competition since COVID-19 pandemic. The February 21-23 competition will welcome nearly two thousand cheese samples to be judged by a team of professionals. Over three days, experts will examine, sniff and taste more than 30,000 pounds of cheese and butter.
"With evaluations grounded in rigorous standards and a competitive field of respected cheesemakers from across the country, this competition is unique in its technicality and prestige," said WCMA Events Manager Kirsten Strohmenger. "We're pleased to offer this opportunity for the nation's dairy processors to improve their craft and grow their businesses."
Interested cheesemakers are encouraged to enter the competition by calling 608-673-5245. Applications for entries are being accepted through January 18, 2023.
The United States Championship Cheese Contest is free and open to the public. In addition to watching these tasting experts in action, visitors can taste gold medal cheese varieties from the most recent contest.
The group has been hosting the contest every other year since 1891.
