At the recent G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, President unveiled a new USAID initiative committing nearly $40 million to the protection of the Brazilian Amazon. This investment aims to support sustainable practices and conservation efforts across an area equivalent to the size of California.
The funding will enhance forest fire management, promote regenerative agricultural practices in high deforestation risk zones, and improve land management among Indigenous communities.
It will bolster the bioeconomy, integrating economic development with forest preservation across all nine states in the Brazilian Amazon.
This initiative not only targets environmental protection but also seeks to attract additional investments from U.S. philanthropies and the private sector. By doing so, USAID aims to create a sustainable model that benefits both the economy and the environment.
These efforts are part of a long-standing collaboration between the U.S., the Brazilian government, civil society, and private sector partners aimed at conserving the Amazon rainforest and supporting local communities. Through such partnerships, USAID continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
