Calling all novice and experienced bear hunters! The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and its partners are offering a unique opportunity to learn and experience bear hunting through the Learn to Hunt Bear program.
This program caters especially to first-time bear hunters who lack guidance or experience. It offers a comprehensive learning experience, combining classroom sessions with practical field training. Participants gain knowledge on bear biology, population management, habitat, hunting techniques, regulations, and safety.
Anyone above 10 years old who hasn't participated before or hasn't obtained bear hunting authorization is encouraged to apply. The number of programs and participants will vary each year, and applicants will be notified by June 1st. Applications must be completed and sent to the DNR by May 1st.
The DNR is also seeking experienced bear hunters to become instructors for this program. Individuals with at least five years of experience and willing to undergo a background check are eligible. Interested groups can contact Emily Iehl, DNR Hunting & Shooting Sports Program Specialist, at Emily.Iehl@wisconsin.gov by May 1st to express their interest in hosting a program in their area.
This program provides a valuable pathway for novice hunters to gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for responsible and ethical bear hunting in Wisconsin.
