Beef in the Classroom Reaches Over 9,000 Wisconsin Students

The Wisconsin Beef Council's 'Beef in the Classroom' grant program is getting high praise for its effectiveness in reaching young people. The program helps family and consumer science and as well as agriculture teachers buy beef products to be used in high school classes across the state.

Specifically, the grants helps teachers strengthen their lessons about lean beef selection, storage, preparation and nutrition by having funds available to buy and prepare beef with their students. Grants for the 2021-22 school year were fulfilled in 130 classrooms, reaching 9,227 students.

WBC also offered online resources for teachers to educate about beef production, nutrition, and sustainability. The checkoff program noted that many teacher evaluations said they would not be able to host this kind of curriculum without these grant dollars.
