Up to $50K available for Wisconsin Meat Processors

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is inviting meat processors in the state to apply for the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant by February 24, 2025.

This initiative aims to strengthen Wisconsin’s meat processing sector while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state’s livestock industry.

“Since Governor Evers and the legislature created the Meat Processor Infrastructure Grant program, the program has supported meat processors in modernizing, expanding, and enhancing their capacity,” stated DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski. “We encourage meat processors to apply for this opportunity and grow their business.”

Eligible applicants must currently run or plan to operate a meat processing facility in Wisconsin that is licensed by DATCP or the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). These businesses must also be involved in livestock harvesting or processing.

Projects should focus on increasing production or harvesting capacity. Grant funding can cover operating expenses linked to the project, including engineering, design, construction, food safety consulting, equipment, and installation.

Grants of up to $50,000 are available for projects lasting up to two years. Awardees must provide a dollar-for-dollar match of the grant funds. The selection process is competitive.

Applications and additional materials are available online at DATCP Meat Processor Infrastructure Grants. Submissions should be sent to DATCP grants manager Brian Williams at datcpdadgrants@wisconsin.gov.
