Wisconsin’s Best Burger Contest - Enter Your Top Picks

By Blake Jackson

The Wisconsin Beef Council (WBC) has launched its 2nd Annual Wisconsin’s Best Burger Contest, seeking to crown the state’s most delectable 100% beef burger.

This competition celebrates Wisconsin restaurants crafting memorable burger experiences. Last year’s contest saw significant benefits for the finalists, including increased sales and statewide recognition.

From February 21st to March 21st, 2025, burger enthusiasts can nominate their favorite 100% beef burger from any Wisconsin restaurant once per person via the WBC website.

Restaurants are encouraged to promote the contest to their customers using marketing resources available on the website. Customer notification is also key to encourage participation.

In early April, the WBC will reveal the “Elite Eight” restaurants with the most nominations. A panel of judges will then secretly evaluate these top contenders based on taste (50 points), appearance (30 points), proper doneness (10 points), overall enjoyment (10 points), and bonus points (up to 5) for the eating environment and atmosphere. The grand winner will be announced on May 1st, kicking off May Beef Month.

Contest eligibility requires the burger to be 100% beef (with permissible added ingredients like spices or vegetables), consist of a formed ground beef patty served on a bun or other bread product, and include any combination of condiments, sauces, cheeses, and toppings.

All burger components must be between the bun or served open-faced. The burger must be a regular menu item, and the restaurant must be open year-round.

Restaurants can only win the contest once. The WBC holds final discretion in interpreting the official rules, available on their website. Top-placing restaurants, especially the winner, can anticipate increased business due to the contest.

The contest provides a platform for Wisconsin restaurants to showcase their culinary creativity and for burger lovers to celebrate their favorite local spots.

It also highlights the quality and versatility of beef as a key ingredient in creating exceptional dining experiences. The WBC encourages participation from both restaurants and the public to find the best burger Wisconsin has to offer.
